DOLCE&GABBANA Commercial DPP Deployment

DATASPIRA successfully deployed a GS1-standard Digital Product Passport (DPP) for DOLCE&GABBANA commercial products using SCAN4DATA AI, establishing Korea's first global luxury DPP implementation.

DATASPIRA secured the Digital Product Passport (DPP) contract for global luxury fashion house DOLCE&GABBANA, successfully implementing an enterprise DPP service powered by SCAN4DATA AI.

Moving beyond pilots or proof-of-concept trials, this marks Korea's first full-scale commercial DPP deployment applied directly to a global luxury brand's retail products. Selected through rigorous technical competition against established US and European enterprise solution providers, DATASPIRA will deploy authentication and lifecycle management services sequentially across major categories including apparel, footwear, and leather goods, starting with the 2027 Spring/Summer (27 S/S) collection.

Korea's First Digital Product Passport for Global Luxury Fashion Products

Dataspira won the Digital Product Passport (DPP) project of the global luxury fashion brand DOLCE&GABBANA and built a DPP service based on SCAN4DATA AI.

This project goes beyond a PoC or pilot program. It is the first case in Korea where a DPP has been applied to the actual retail products of a global luxury brand as a full commercial service. The DPP service will be rolled out progressively across key product categories such as apparel, shoes and bags, starting with the 2027 Spring/Summer (27 S/S) season.

Selected as the Final Provider through Global Competition

Global technology companies from the United States and Europe took part in this project. We were selected as the final provider after competing directly with companies already operating in the global DPP and product data market. Our technology and service were reviewed in full during this process.

As an early-stage startup, we are now delivering a commercial project for a world-renowned luxury brand.

Connecting Products and Data through DPP

A DPP links a physical product with its digital information, creates a unique digital identity for each product, and manages information across the product life cycle, including production, distribution, use, repair and recycling. Consumers, businesses, repair and recycling operators, and regulators can each access the information they need through data carriers such as QR and NFC.

SCAN4DATA AI links physical products with their digital information, creating and managing a digital identity for each product.

Consumers can access the brand's dedicated digital environment by scanning the NFC or QR on the product with a smartphone, without installing any app. Depending on the scope provided for each product, they can view the following information:

  • Product identification and details
  • Material composition, raw materials and country of origin
  • Production and supply chain history
  • Environmental and circularity information
  • Use, repair and recycling information
  • Product authentication and traceability

The service also supports a multilingual environment for global consumers.

Beyond Compliance, Connecting Products to the Brand's Digital Services

A DPP is more than a means of providing information for EU regulatory compliance. It can serve as a new touchpoint that connects the physical product itself to the brand's digital services. Brands can stay connected with consumers after the sale and extend services such as product authentication, product information, and repair and recycling guidance.

Global Standards Applied through the Partnership with GS1 Korea

For a DPP that serves the global market, international standards and interoperability are essential to connect data generated by different companies and systems.

As a Primary Partner of GS1 Korea under the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dataspira has continuously provided standards support and technical cooperation for the industrial adoption of GS1 global standards in product identification, data linkage and Digital Product Passports.

Building on this partnership and standards capability, we applied GS1 global standards for product identification and data linkage to the DOLCE&GABBANA project and implemented a DPP environment that connects different systems and product data in a standardized way.

We also commercialized Oliopass, a GS1 standards based technology transferred from KAIST Auto-ID Labs, and extended it into the DPP service of SCAN4DATA AI. This developed standards and research technology into a commercial service for the global industrial environment. In addition, we have built our technology and commercialization capabilities through joint research with the KAIST Auto-ID Labs Busan Innovation Research Center on GS1 standards based product identification, data linkage and the industrial application of DPP.

From Korea's GS1 Standards Ecosystem to Global Commercial Service

This project is also significant in that the technology and industry experience built through the standards partnership with GS1 Korea has expanded into a commercial service applied to the actual retail products of a global luxury brand.

The product identification and data linkage capabilities accumulated in Korea on GS1 global standards have moved beyond the research and pilot stage into the DPP operating environment of a global brand. The achievements of Korea's GS1 standards ecosystem are now connected to a live commercial service in the global market.

EU DPP Takes Shape as a Key Agenda for Global Fashion Companies

With the European Union (EU) strengthening its product and environmental regulations, DPP is becoming a key agenda for global manufacturers and distributors. Centered on the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), the EU is building a framework to improve the sustainability and circularity of products and to manage product information digitally. Detailed requirements are being set in stages for major product groups such as iron and steel, aluminium, textiles and apparel, furniture, and tyres. A data infrastructure that manages materials, raw materials, production and supply chain data, and environmental and circularity information in a structured way is expected to become increasingly important.

In the fashion industry, supply chains span multiple countries and companies from raw materials to manufacturing, distribution and sales. This requires a framework that connects and manages information consistently at the product level. In line with this, SCAN4DATA AI is extending DPP from a compliance solution into a global product data infrastructure that connects products from production to the consumer experience.

Beyond DOLCE&GABBANA, to Global Brands

The DOLCE&GABBANA commercial service is a key reference for our expansion in the global market. We are currently expanding our DPP and product and supply chain data platform business to additional global brands, mainly in the fashion and luxury industries. Going forward, we plan to expand GS1 standards based DPP and supply chain data linkage across a range of industries such as electronics, cosmetics and food.

SCAN4DATA AI will continue to develop into a global product data platform that connects product-level digital identities with supply chain data and provides enterprise data management through to end-consumer services in an integrated way, so that global brands can manage the regulations of each country and their supply chains within a single framework.

Preparing the DPP Transition for Korean Fashion Brands

When DPP-related regulations take full effect in the EU and other global markets, Korean fashion and consumer goods companies that operate directly in Europe or have global distribution networks are also expected to face a growing need to build product information and supply chain data in a structured way.

Based on the experience of this global commercial service, we are preparing an application model so that Korean fashion brands can move product identification, raw material and material information, supply chain data, environmental information, product authentication and consumer services into a DPP environment in stages. We plan to apply the DPP structure operated by a global brand and the GS1 standards based data framework to the environment of Korean companies, and support Korean fashion companies in responding to regulatory changes in global markets.

Our goal is to bring the global reference gained overseas back to Korean industry and to grow into a global platform company in DPP and product and supply chain data that supports Korean manufacturers and fashion companies entering global markets.

From Product to Digital Identity

With this project, DOLCE&GABBANA has established a foundation to operate product data registration and management, product authentication, traceability and consumer digital services within a single DPP environment.

As an AI-based global product and supply chain data platform company, Dataspira connects this entire flow through SCAN4DATA AI and provides the infrastructure for global brands to continuously manage the digital identity of their products.

The significance of this project is that technology developed in Korea was applied to the actual business environment of a world-renowned luxury brand after competing with global companies. Starting with the DOLCE&GABBANA commercial service, we will expand our cooperation with global brands and support Korean companies in preparing for DPP and the global supply chain data environment. We will grow SCAN4DATA AI into a global product data platform that connects product and supply chain data around the world, not a solution limited to a specific industry or regulation.
